The Girl with One Eye

The Girl with One Eye

A Poem by Emily Robinson
"

Though I don't know the girl in person, her health situation weighs heavy on my thoughts.

"

How I envy the peace you have

Your frail hands are always reaching to the sky

You smile so assured I cannot grasp it

You are the girl with one eye

I thought my own life was rough enough

Convinced that tumors in my hands would be enough to let me cry

But I was caught off guard when I first met you

You are the girl with one eye

I felt like weeping when I last saw you

Your brown hair, shoulder length is now mostly gone

There is a bald spot on the right side of your head

It feels like a sign of what’s to come

Your face is pale, and you look so tired

I want to hold you, to simply be your friend

Though I don’t know your name, and we are complete strangers

I lift you up in my prayers and thoughts
