Wasted Years

Wasted Years

A Poem by Emily Robinson
"

Sometimes accepting "What Is" is important for letting us look ahead to "What Can Be".

"

I cannot look at these times and say they weren’t meant to be

Nor can I face you and say you’ll never be released

I can only hope that through the pain and in my tears

Meaning will come from what has felt like wasted years

I cannot face the bitter facts and say they are not true

Nor can I erase the darkened shadows hovering over you

I can only hope that through folded hands soaked with tears

Relief will come after what has felt like wasted years

We can look at the past as a monster we escaped from

we can look to the future as a chance for who we can become

As these dreams for peace gradually become true

We will awaken beneath the sunrise, and my eyes will rest on you

My eyes will rest on you.

Sometimes life can be like walking on the top of an extremely high brick wall; so high in fact, you can't even see the bottom on either side. If you slowly put one foot in front of the other, you can move forward. However, to look back over your shoulder to what has been, will only lead to a fall into the abyss. So you must focus on the future; that spot straight ahead which eventually takes you to a wider more safe and comfortable path.

This is what your fascinating and creative write spoke too me! Wonderfully poignant, albeit sad piece.
