Echoes in my lonely mind...

Echoes in my lonely mind...

A Chapter by Emily May
"

melancholy words.

"

I see the trees. Beautifully gloriously raw in their forms.

Their entwining branches reach higher and higher,

As if searching the heavens for an answer.

An answer they are desperate for.

To answer a question they have long forgotten.

Each leaf is unique in it's own individual design,

They fall spiralling to the mossy floor below.

The rustling of the foliage surrounding me

Whispers in my ear.

'Listen to us. We need to know.'

The harsh bark covering the trunks

Resembles the skins of an animal.

The more I look,

The more I see.

I now see in the distance

A mass of smoke.

Thick and black it hangs over the rolling hills

Unwanted.

It pours out across the sky

Funnelling from a factory.

I see the building

Glinting silver in the midday sun.

I hear the trees once more.

'Listen to us. We need to know.'

I feel their pain, their suffering

As they remain rooted to this suffocating landscape.

What was once so beautiful,

Now seems to be lost.

I turn and flee,

Their pleas echoing through my lonely mind.
