One HouseA Poem by Emily CunninghamI don't want to explain this.Burn it down. All of it. To the ground. To ash. ‘Til there’s nothing left but bone. I watch the flames. I listen to the cries. I taste their pain on my tongue and the smoke pricks my eyes. The chaos dances, orange, blue, white. It warms my skin. Burns my lungs. Like the first cigarette of the day. Only tinged with betrayal and shock. If a house starts to crumble around you,
burn it down. © 2014 Emily Cunningham |
