Pressured

Pressured

A Poem by Paige Stapleton
"

This poem was written out of the spur of the moment. I guess since I will be graduating in a year and I have been through a lot of trials throughout high-school, this poem surely was fitting enough.

"

Am I the only one who feels pressured?

Pressured in various ways;

To be pretty enough,

Or skinny enough.

Am I the only one who feels pressured?

I have to be 'good' enough for Mom and Dad.

Have to make the team;

Be present on the sidelines.

Am I the only one who feels pressured?

Asked what I want to do with the rest of my life.

Start a family?

Get married?

Am I the only one who feels pressured?

Fitting in with the right crowd;

Is there really a 'right' one, though?

Popular seems to be the new black.

Why can I not be who I want to be,

And live each day how I choose?

It starts today;

I am me.

I'm sure there are plenty of girls that fee pressured to I've up to the media's standards for what a model should look like. As for what the family expects, i'm sure you're not alone in your thinking there either. I'm glad to see the conclusion you've come to.
