Victims of Circumstance

Victims of Circumstance

A Poem by Emilee Grimm

We bear the burden of society

while inside the burdens of being who we aren’t won’t ever be relieved

We’re the ones they kick down but the ones they can’t do without

We live to serve and die

Only to learn that our time on this earth meant nothing

Because we’re victims of circumstance,

  controlled by society

Run by those who believe they know better than anyone else

Maybe one day we’ll come to the realization

and see we never put up a fight

  to gain back control

But how can we fight when we don’t realize we’re under control?
