Sometimes and Always

Sometimes I try

Sometimes I succeed

At hiding these feelings

At hiding this pain.

 

Never happy

Always numb

Always in pain.

 

By now I know

That these feelings will never fully leave me

Never fully escape my memory.

 

Not after two years of

Constant pain

Constant suffering

Constant sadness.

 

Sometimes I forget

Sometimes I let my guard down

And somebody gets in.

 

They always end up hurting me

I always end up regretting it.

 

But maybe this time is different

Maybe I’ll stay happy

As long as I’m with him.

 

I trust he won’t hurt me

I trust he can keep me happy

As long as I’m with him.
