this really had a profound effect on me. Speaks of commitment to something, and the strong bonds one builds with it. I myself have never been brave enough for a tattoo, but that almost calls to question my wanting to commit to anything. This poem really can have multiple meanings, which good poetry should. Thank you for sharing, Elizabeth.
I see this in an allegorical sense. Yes, a real tattoo, but also a memory imprinted, one that may hurt but is reminder of a past love, one we will never want to forget....I have several figurative tattoos of close friends who died much too young.

Some lessons are harder learned than others - but no more nor no less valid. Some tattoo (s) behind the eyes flavor our nights with seemingly indelible scars - for a while.
You are brave. My granddaughter has many tattoos but she doesn:t ink them herself, instead paying out quite a bit of money to a local studio. Some of them are beautiful. I can:t quite get my head round the fact that they are forever. My only concern is that she will get fed up with them and have regrets. There again there's a huge generational gap. Showing my age aren't I? Thank you for sharing.
