Poets and Politicians

Poets and Politicians

A Poem by marym224
"

A free verse about people on our planet

"

Poli in Latin means many, more than a few

tics in Latin means ‘blood-sucking mites’

when these meet poets, their rawness is softened

when fighting for their various rights

Politicians work hard arguing their view

in Parliament or Congress or on similar stages

Poetic phrases and gentle  terms are often used

to calm politicians and their rages

Poets meet politics on many a level

when attempting to persuade the masses

that the taxes they pay are the only way

to soften bureaucratic lashes

Poetic politicians are rare and few

But their persuasive banter can change the view

of thousands who vote the  democratic way

Hoping the outcome will favour their wishes .

All the rhetoric and red tape that alights

opposites playing fields that vie for attention

One for the  poets, more than a few

and one for the blood sucking mites.

I'm not a very good poet, but I do enjoy putting together my style of poetry. If it gives someone else a smile, I consider it worth while

Poets and politicians.... rarely are they put in the same sentence.

Enjoyed your breakdown of the word "politician", a true definition is found within after all.

Mites, leeches, parasites....whatever we call them, one thing is definitely true....they do suck the blood of those they are elected to represent. Always have and always will.

An interesting write. Shining a poetic light on a predominantly despicable species. Nicely done.
