The Autumnal Equinox is on Our Axis

The Autumnal Equinox is on Our Axis

A Poem by Alisa Lawton
"

A poem celebrating the beginning of the autumnal equinox.

"

I've heard everyone corresponds with a season
Some being Spring, Summer or Winter.
For my fellow Fall fellows our
Autumn Equinox is celebrated earth wide.
Night is as long as day with twelve hours
to shine and twelve hours to repose.
The sun crosses the equator

authorizing the first day of autumn.

When the Fall winds rustle golden leaves
to awaken you to remind you
Spring is asleep and Summer is
yawing into its slumber; think

September with funny faced scarecrows
in an orange pumpkin patch field
ready for Fall festival holding apple
bobbing contests next to the stand selling
apple cider and powdered funnel cakes; think

October with jack-o-lanterns on porches
rustling with crisp leaves disturbing spider webs
as little witches and batmans and smiling
skeletons run giddy saying "Happy Halloween"
with the same enthusiasm as Linus waits
for the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; think

November with the Norman Rockwell
Thanksgiving (for some) and orange
colored dinners with butternut squash
soup, pumpkin pies, stuffing, cranberries
and glazed turkey on glazed leaf plates

To us a toast.

May we walk the Autumn road
and reach our golden pond
