The Waiting Room

The Waiting Room

A Poem by MaryP

Everybody is just waiting

Waiting for news

They say any news is good news

Try telling that to that man over there

Trying to stay strong

Griping the hand of his sleeping wife

Washing her hands with his tears

Everybody’s hoping

We’re all praying

Even the Atheists are praying

Praying to whoever they can think of

They’re calling on God, Allah, Santa

Anyone

Anybody who could help

Because its driving us insane just

Waiting

So we wait in our waiting room

Wait until we get sent upstairs

Moving on

Level by level

Like some sick video game

Except nobody wants to move on

Nobody wants to win the prize they're offering

We’re waiting

Waiting for them to say

Oh, no you’re fine

Just go home

So we wait

In solitude

In silence

Join together by one thing alone

The wait

Beautiful poem. Describes the almost surreal and maddening feeling of having to wait for the seeminly inevitable bad news. I've known that feeling quite a few times, and you capture it perfectly.

This is good work. Good subject. First two verses very strong. Verse 1 fantastic. Keep going young talent!
