Footprint In The Snow

Footprint In The Snow

A Poem by MaryP

Check outside your window

Can you see the snowfall?

The animals have been silenced

No echoes bounce off the walls

Notice the whiteness of it

Notice how it shines

Does it remind you of something?

It recreates a dream of mine.

Me and Lennon have the same idea

I reckon peace can conquer all

Once we ignore our selfish ways

How the mighty will so quickly fall

The smooth waves of snow

Lining the frozen ground

Its like a scene from a Hallmark card

Except there’s no-one else around

I smile in the knowledge

That this could be it

The snow, the wind, the trees and me

Accompanied by a candle barely lit

But underneath my footprint

Lies the crumbling dirt

There’s grass and mud and insects

That have known centuries of hurt

But before the sun chooses to shine

Before the rain does fall

Just remember this time

When perfection covered all

Beautiful poem of peace, understanding, justice, quietness, and solitude in the world. I interpret this as the world seeming to be pefectly fresh with no one in existence but yourself and nature while there is a beautiful blanket of unbroken snow on the ground, even sounds are blocked out when snow falls---Very nice imagery! Great reference to J. Lennon's "Imagine!"
