The Teenage GirlA Poem by MaryPnow this is my first piece, so be nice, please. Many watch this creature in its natural habitat. They see as she dives from one emotion to the next. They watch her crawl over the carcasses of men with broken hearts. They watch her curiously, she seems incapable of talking. They watch as she shouts, screams. They watch her create a face for herself everyday out of make-up. They judge her. They do not know her. They can watch as much as they want, but they do not see. They do not see that she is uncomfortable, in her surrounding, in her own skin. They do not see her confusion and fear as she no longer understands herself. They don’t see that she nurses a broken heart of her own. They do not see that she feels unimportant, alone. They do not hear the desperation behind her shouts. They do not see the sadness in the eyes she frames perfectly with mascara. They do not see the insecurities, the way she never feels good enough. They judge her. They do not know her. © 2010 MaryP |
