Something Stupid I'll Probably RegretA Poem by em810She was born perfect Like everyone is At the age of 0 With her dad choosing her name Because she was beautiful And her mother full of love and hope Because she had time She wore pretty little things And she ate the right food She didn’t know about the world But it didn’t know about her She loved what she could And she had many happy, forgotten years One day she made a decision To wear something uncomfortable To blacken her eyes and darken her lips Because it was pretty They said And the light in her eyes dimmed Another day she was told To kiss a boy To let him hurt her Because it was necessary They said And her heart fractured In-between those days she was asked To pretend that it was okay To let herself fall apart alone Because it was expected They said And her mind burned And when the rain poured She was exposed Because all the darkness She kept in Washed away like black tears And her face changed But it was only discernible At night Or when she, for a split second, Turned away And her dad was intoxicated And her mother was grieving And she had no one else Because friends have expiration dates And she was tired of school and life Because she didn’t want to be an actor And she hated herself Because she was nothing at all She died in a shell Like everyone will At the age of 18 With her dad forgetting her name Because she was invisible And her mother full of sadness
and despair Because she had failed She wore what she was supposed to And she ate everything but food She knew about the world But it forgot about her She loved everything and nothing And she had run out of time © 2013 em810 |
