Parasitic Mind

Parasitic Mind

A Poem by Emily Rose
"

Inspired by a fantastic book I've read that addresses mental health, eating disorders and the importance of getting help.

"
My mind,
It works against me
A parasite.
And the host?
My own body
It leaks its thoughts
Through my mind
And convinces me
That they are mine
That they are true
Always there
There's constant reminders
Look in the mirror
But it's not your reflection
The parasite
Its eyes
Have morphed your body
Accentuates what you hate
But when will enough
Be just enough?
When there's no fat
When you are thin
When there's merely bones
Through translucent skin

❤️🥺 Pain. Thoughts never sleep, even while you're dreaming.

It can be really difficult :(
Reminds me of my grandson. He had an eating disorder in his late teens. Was a really anxious time, but thankfully he got help and he no longer dislikes what he eats or his body shape. The outcomes of these disorders can be devastating. I like how you approached this subject. Well penned.

This is haunting and beautiful. The formatting adds to the eerie feeling and the final lines are chilling and grogeous. Amazing job :)

Thank you so much Nadia - I really appreciate it :)
This hits home for me. When I was younger I went through it with an eating disorder and even now, I still have this mentality. Hard to see what it's doing to you until it feels like its too late.

Wishing the same for you. :)
Yes. 👏. This hits close to home (my daughter at one point, now in the past long enough for confidence it’s gone). Good of you to capture it and spread the word in graceful but targeted words. (Happy New Year to the Southern Hemisphere.)
