Chicks

Chicks

A Poem by Elyne Knight
"

"

Fluffy hatchling

rapier beak,

scruffy scratching

reptile feet.

What's that?

crane neck... freeze... and

Scatter-patter-run!

chirp -- chirp ...everyone?

Flock home safe

snuggle down-soft

nestlings

nestle

nest.

I do like this very much. When you say snuggle down-soft...you then keep shortening the next word down to nest, Like a bird in flight that comes to roost, like a plane landing.

Made me feel like a kid again reading this.

This reminded me of the baby chicks and ducks my mom would buy us for Easter when we were young! What a comforting thought you've conjured up. I haven't thought of that in years. Thank you, Elyne!

Hi, I really like this. We raised chickens when I was a kid and you describe the chicks so well. I was often reprimanded for cuddling the little biddies. But seriously, who wouldn't want to hold such a cute little ball of yellow fluff? Great write. I enjoyed the read.
