Beyond Those GatesA Poem by CircusNerdWatching from behind cloudy glass The "snow" falling on the grass But here I am, stuck in class Behind those gates
As the teacher talks my mind goes blank Knowing well she would throw me from the plank For "insubordination" of this rank Open those gates
A jargon she speaks, though I can't comprehend Scabs of pride ripped open - I need to mend These procrastinating ways I've come to defend Raise those gates
For arbitrary reasons I can't find the cause Which breaks moral ethics and nullifies these laws Of basic violations - a plethora of flaws Push those gates
The clock ticking slowly away Above my head, making me pray Anxious to end a meticulous day Call the Gatekeeper!
It's the weekend and somehow I don't care For there's more to be done than I'm aware A mountain of homework to invoke my glare Past those gates
A few minutes longer, for this I can't wait I've been here too long, already too late For when the bell rings, I'll be through that gate Through those gates
And I'll decide for myself if it's snow or rain Whatever it is, just awash my pain And I'll go home whistling while these streetlights wane Beyond those gates to Utopia © 2009 CircusNerdReviews
