Cross of Life

Cross of Life

A Poem by Elvis Gilley
"

Memories of a night of separation and the joyous resurrection.

"

People look upon my heart,

judge the frailties life has granted.

Fuss about the tones

and colors with which I have painted.

A time of sorrow befalls us

each and every man.

Yet through the course of life

there is a cross to bear while we can.

A nail in our feet

to guide us beyond our fleshly tendencies.

Wine flows along the thigh

of our beloved Lord.

One whom never fought any man

however he was pierced with sins sword.

Tattered skin sways in the balmy breeze

for the sin of mankind stripped this man of his kingdom.

Yet through thorns

he brought to the world freedom.

Roman sarcasm

meant to mock his crown.

However death

couldn't hold him down.

If I were asked whom I love,

I have a short reply.

I love the man

who love can never die.
