Beneath the Tree of Life

Beneath the Tree of Life

A Poem by Elvis Gilley
"

What lies beneath us all?

"

Come and play

In the heat of all days

Come and rest beneath the tree of life

See what may come and go

Come my friend and ponder

The thoughts that you hold dear

Come and wait for me to arrive

Beside you

Rest with me

Calmly and peacefully

Watch out as the apples

Fall upon the ground

Careful let not the knowledge

Of illusions distort your view

For my friend even a lost soul

Is responsible for its own salvation

I came here once and rested

Beneath this tree of life
