Mankind

Mankind

A Poem by Elvis Gilley
"

We all battle the demons of our past.

"

The man whom dwells within

 watches as his soul decays

for loneliness has taken its toll

      since love floated away

These emerald eyes grow as the desert

  for tears have built walls

my arrogant heart listened to his stupidity

      ignoring his Father's calls

Once a loyal soldier

I fought this battle with courage and power

now I fall upon my knees

a man reduced to a mere coward

Isolation corrupted my judgment

hatred and deceit ruled my mind

    this soul declares war

while I seek a love which forever binds

Love battles chaos

  the faithful battle rages

    however I do wonder

God shall you spare these beast while they roam within fleshy cages
