Storms of Life

Storms of Life

A Poem by Elvis Gilley
"

Through the storms which we travel.

"

Upon this earth I have sought refuge

from this confusion in which I dwell

I look toward heaven for deliverance from this emotional hell

Hope is the tiniest thread upon which I stand

In every way I need a helping hand

In the dreary clouds I watch my past

a lifetime full of heartache which seems so vast

As lightning cracks and thunders roar

I find solitude in the peaceful thoughts of heavens shore

I weep as thoughts of abandonment creep this way

then I hear my Father gently say

I love you.

It comforts my soul for I know

what his grace has done

The raging sea of emotion calms after a stormy night

while the days of rebellion I still fight

O Father, comfort is my plea

leave me not to die on this troubled sea

I seek refuge in him, so that I may weather this storm

realizing this spirit within me is torn

Shall I run, like a frightened child

or will I combat this flesh, which stands beguiled.
