Uncharted and UndiscoveredA Poem by Claire MarieYet another metaphor...
You are a territory
Unmarked and undiscovered by me Yet. To start: your eyes. They are small sink holes Their power unnoticeable at first Until I misstep, and sink in. I don't struggle, though. It seems I'm deeper than I thought And besides, sinking is surprisingly pleasant. Next: your cheeks. Smooth and sculpted hills Crafted by God at his own hand They seem promising land To plant my lips. Allowing them to flourish a prosper Into everything they can become. Then: your lips. Smooth rivers that flow smoothly With water so clear you can see the bottom Making them seem more shallow That they truly are. Dangerous if you drown, Refreshing if you can swim. If you overestimate your control with them, You will regret it. That's just your face; A land unto itself, Formidable yet alluring to maneuver. There's still miles of territory Uncharted and undiscovered by me Yet. Still I wonder How many feet have crossed These paths and roads, Met their fate in these sinkholes, Planted their own lips in this land, Drunk from these rivers. It worries me Who may have discovered and charted This territory before me. Yet I tread on but tread lightly, Determined to familiarize myself With the terrain that is You. © 2014 Claire MarieAuthor's Note
