Soft Winter

Soft Winter

A Poem by Nicole F. Elmer

Delicate is your face
Cold but enchanting is your embrace
Light and somber, your steps trace
All too quickly are they erased
The others call you a disgrace
But I, I’ve never seen a lovelier face
taking up this space.

This space itself is new and enticing
The sight of it all has become so inviting
I call you wonderful, they claim you’re slighting
you bring something new, all so very heightening
pale white, you are enlightening
could I hold you? I feel your grasp tightening

Ever could I ever witness your beauty
limbs glistening, voice softly speaking to me
apparitions rising and falling to the
ground, gracing the horizons and turning a new leaf
Gray as you are, I see nothing but colors of unity
For as much as they all claim your irreverent moodi-ness
You are the epitome of colorless vibrancy, blinding beauty.

Your exquisite bite
leaves many contrite

Your duration leaves people worn
And so next year they return, scorned

If ever they decide to open their eyes
They’ll be nothing short of amazed, perhaps surprised

Your beauty is surreal
Soft Winter, your numbing cold and blinding whiteness has left me only able to feel.
