He stopped. 38. It was neither young, nor old. It was sometimes young, and sometimes adult. But never old in any meaningful sense, except “too old” for quite a few things, already. He looked around. It was quiet. Some green fields, blue skies, some clouds gliding peacefully over the horizon. Underneath him, rock. He felt steady. And he felt alive, and happy.
This describes the lively, reflective mood quite well. I think the third and fourth lines give a good description of how people view the age of 38 ... some can consider it young, but few people would call it old. I enjoyed the imagery towards the end ... it gave meaning to the title. Thanks for sharing.

Love to hear your perception and thoughts about this. It's trying to be one of those instant moments, which has perhaps an small element of surprise, in the voice of the poem.
But mostly gratitude..
Thanks again.

As I read your work, I was compelled to recall the moment I experienced a moment of clarity when I was 23. Your poem appeals to my introverted nature.

Evoking important emotional moments is something special, and a heartwarming feedback. And I've always loved the inner life of more introverted people.
Great poem I believe that deals with a man coming to grips with the maturing of the age. Great poem about a man taking the environment of the day. Quiet, Peaceful, Green, Blue skies, and a few Clouds, captivating the true reality of early morning, most peaceful time of the day.

a good age to still feel very much alive...i am 66 and still feel that aliveness...hope the speaker still understands the precious nature of life...when that age has doubled for him.
