Breaking CharacterA Poem by AlanaFor all the hopeless romantics out there. With bated breath I waited For a child’s hopeless dream Wasting every wish I had on deities unseen. Foolishly believing That longing brought me flight Falling is just flying in a way that isn’t right. The ground came up beneath me But still I saw the stars Awed by how they touched me even though they were so far. The essence of a shell Affected me so deep That in my waking hours all I wanted was to sleep. The luminosity I longed for May not even exist A thought at first unsettling but then hard to resist. Upon the ground I pondered Falsehoods of flight and light Then on a whim I closed my eyes and stood shaky but upright. While the night was beautiful It left me unfulfilled So I faced tow’rd the horizon that peeked over sleepy hills. With feet planted firmly In the dawn of a new day Letting out the breath I’d been holding--I knew I’d be okay. © 2014 AlanaAuthor's Note
