Fractured Seasons

Fractured Seasons

A Poem by Ellie Koput
"

A spoken word poem about the rapid decline of an illicit romantic epidemic. Enjoy!

"
I wanted to sip paper bags with you
on the cold winter nights
whisper sweet nothings into your
cold, blue ears
kiss you until the snow began to melt
and your ears turned pink again

I wanted the harsh aftertaste
of your mouth on mine
to remind us both
of what we shared
when the morning came

I wanted the sweat upon my hands
to serve as the sweet memorabilia
of your fingers in mine
as our days alone progressed

I wanted our tousled hair
to stay in place
with irony
as we recollected the love
that you and I shared
on the cold winter nights
when your ears were blue

I did not want the cracks in my heart
to emphasize the tragedy
of why you chose her
because she was prettier than me
and she knew how to get by
but like you and I
the shards are not forever
and soon they shall alleviate

I wanted for us to wish for springtime not to come

Author's Note

Ellie Koput
I'm not trying to romanticize substance abuse in any way, I'm solely trying to emphasize my crave for rebellion and adventure (teen angst?).
I'm still semi new to this whole poetry thing, so spare the fact that I can't rhyme for shit, or create an even balance. I tried to follow a pattern.

P.S. Thanks for reading this. Please leave me feedback.
