Angry Skies

Angry Skies

A Poem by Ellie Jons

The pressure of the sky bends

with a thunderous hand to cradle the land.

The clouds angry,

twist their lips,

spew rain, slowly at first.

Lightning singes the sky

until the clouds are still and ashamed,

plastering the Earth.

In attempt to stop from breaking,

they plead and pant

gathering in small pools below.

Gurgling and hissing fight back

alone, lame and helpless

against nature.

The Earth cracks and chokes

on the spreading pools.

Liquid erodes,

disperses and secretes

dirt to its surface.

The brave Earth

now mushy and vulnerable

under one's foot.

The land cries

with cicadas

and pine needles

stuck into its surface.
