Oranges & Lemons

Oranges & Lemons

A Poem by MiaIntheSkywithDiamonds
"

Title taken from the old nursery rhyme. Inspired by Doctor Who. It's not the evil of violence or blood or gore or war. It's the evil that lives in one and all, dormant until one day, it arises.

"

A drumming in my temples

A beating in my head

The spiral staircase leads to rooms

Full of fear and dread.

This doctor tends my headache

But I hear the beating still,

And the monster in the mirror

Sits on my windowsill.

I proceed through the hallways,

My footfalls making time

The metronome within my brain

Forms words that seem to rhyme.

The beast that always follows

Ascends the staircase now

His socks making static against

The carpet patterned diamonds red.

The laughter seems to settle on

Unsuspecting heads

A nightmare dreamt by those who pray

For dun solutions to dun silly problems.

But they linger on and on and on

And slipper and quiver and slither along

Till the angels cry and sing their song.

Attacked by the forces that come from inside

Give fear or give faith

Where the demons reside.
