Green

Green

A Poem by MiaIntheSkywithDiamonds

Green. Yes, my dear.

Green. The color of envy.

Rather, jealousy, the want for

Something you have that I don't.

Green. Your glimmering emerald eyes

Flashing from face to face

And he never stood a chance.

Green. Illness, that pit in

My stomach telling me that

You get what I want

And I watch with a false, plastered-on

Smile, telling you and me both that

We are still friends. Right?

Green. The sea foam brushing over

The tops of the waves, the scales

On the mermaid's long, luscious tail,

The lonely mildew growing on the

Lonely cottage on the top of the hill.

Green. The fresh paint on your brand-new home,

And the freshly-cut grass in the front lawn,

The laughter of your husband and children

Filling the heart, filling the soul.

The grass lumped to the top of my grave

Carelessly, effortlessly, while you watch on

In faint memory of the girl who could've been

Your lover at your side, never knowing that he could've been, too.

The grass above my still white silhouette,

Green.
