Heart Quake

Heart Quake

A Poem by E.L. Debbage
"

Who in the Devil was he? Well, the Devil, of course.

"

Crept away as if nothing was at stake

still the force of her departure

caused many heart quakes.

Storms and ice fell over the land.

Her lover was left; broken,

alone in the sand.

Waves crashed; alike the taunts in his brain,

he screamed, he wept,

then a seawitch called out his name.

She swam to shore, beckoned him forward,

he was curious, desperate,

needed to know more.

She stared as deep as the deepest ocean into his eyes,

pulled him close

and in his lonely ear she cried:

One day, you shall depart too!

However your time isn’t near

it is far too soon!

Heed my warning, sorrowful man, as there is a risk,

fail and you shall forever feel like this!

In the blink of an eye she had swam away,

far away from the kingdom;

that had only the power to pray.

He knelt down on one knee, knew the prophecy would not suffice;

he needed to be free;

embraced by his wife.

He groaned aloud, when he reached for a blade;

planted it firmly in to his chest

and slowly fell into a daze

He was spiraling, endlessly into a pit of fire,

spiraling, spiraling downwards,

the souls of his people screeched liar!

Landed rough, where he believed he was to reunite with his lover,

but prophecies never lie;

he had arrived in death, to find she’d met another.

The sea witch spoke the truth, all he ever felt was sorrow.

He now goes by Devil

stifling his eternal misery; stealing the lives of tomorrow.

Haha it's funny to re read what my subconscious has conjured, glad you enjoyed!!xx
The devil seems to be a hot topic right now. This actually reminds me that I want to watch Lucifer.

When I was reading it I was imagining a cross between the little mermaid and dante's inferno. Very interesting to say the least. Hell hath no fury like a man who caught his woman with some dead guy. It almost sounds comical.
