A Girl is a GardenA Poem by Ella SimoneA Girl is a Garden
I took scissors to the strings of my heart And let them turn brittle and black That way I’d never fall apart Since I’d lost what I couldn’t get back
I cursed my bones and everything inside My poisoned body, stuffed with cyanide
But a girl is a garden Meant to come to fruition Perhaps my heart had hardened But I it thawed through attrition.
I cleared my cortex of its coal And found gems buried beneath Watered the soil of my soul And took it out of its sheath
I let elation emerge and dread dissipate Finally, I was ready for a life to decorate
I’ve sailed the seas of sadness And found my way to shore My greatest hope is to send a boat To someone who needs it more © 2022 Ella Simone |
