Jack TorrenceA Poem by Ella SimoneBased off the main character in Stephen King's The Shining.Jack Torrance
Middle aged rage Comes fresh and scorchin’ It could burn his calloused fingers And dry the salty sea.
He locks the cage Of his own misfortune. Little time lingers Before he throws away the key.
He abnegates the weight Of personal parole. Fury and turmoil Take the load from his hands.
His delirium dilates. How good it feels to lose control! To surrender and uncoil Beneath a force so black and grand.
He'll feed its every craving For marvelous misery. To be the bane of what he'd built To beat until the bone.
But as it's crumbled and caving His last moth-bitten memory He feels a pang of guilt For these desires are his own. © 2022 Ella Simone |
