What is freedom and peace?

What is freedom and peace?

A Poem by Elizabeth Gallegos

Once upon a time

There was a princess

Who everyone thought was

happy and free.

She was to marry

Her “true love”

In two days.

The wedding

Was to be a

Masterpiece,

That surpassed any art by

Van Gogh.

The cake

Was to be taller

Than the Eiffel tower

And taste like the blue sea.

With just a hint of lemon.

And finally the dress

Was to be the traditional white.

When the bride would walk

Down the aisle everyone

Would be blinded

By the beauty

That was the dress

And the bride.

Yet on the day,

A horse was summoned.

By the bride no less,

To take her away.

Once she left,

The music stopped playing

the wedding song.

The groom was left on the altar

Staring at his complexion.

And everyone was

In utter confusion.

How could she desert her wedding and life?

She had everything she could ever possibly want.

She had the cake, dress, the perfect wedding

Her “true love” and riches.

What more could she want?

But what they didn’t know was that

She was dissatisfied

With her life.

She didn’t want the cake.

Nor the wedding.

Nor the riches or her “true love.”

All she wanted was to be free

She wanted to live amongst the animals of the wild.

Befriend them.

Learn their ways of life.

Whether that meant living in a forest,

Or living in a jungle or even a town

Amongst the human beasts.

She knew that in time she would learn.

Learn the sincere meaning or freedom and peace.

I choose to stand in the rain, standing still while hummingbirds fly around me.
