Please

Please

You know that man
Who looked at you?
Yeah, that's right
The one on the street
Huddled in blankets
The one you looked at you
And you could tell he was starving
He looked at you, then at the empty plastic cup on the ground
He said
"Please"
And what did you do?
You walked away with your nose in the air.

Do you remember that little girl?
She had fallen over
And her knees were scraped and bleeding.
She looked at you with pleading brown eyes
And she said
"Please? Do you have a plaster?"
But you walk away
With your nose in the air.

I'm not sure about your goal in writing this but if it's to pinch somebody's heart, then you succeeded. I don't know, I always feel guilty around homeless individuals. Like a child who somewhat feels responsible for someone's misfortune. It kills me to see these people and the fact that the pennies I drop on their plastic cup won't make any difference. . S
