FreaksA Chapter by Elena Hazzard"Hey freak!" Someone yelled, the sound bouncing around the school. I stood quietly next to my locker, trying to figure out how to open it. I knew I stood out, which was probably the reason that they were picking on me. Today I sported a long black skirt with silver lace, and a long sleeved shirt with a small heart on the front, and the words Trust Your Journey underneath. My first day I thought and already I'm getting bullied. Shocking. I turned around to face a stocky tall boy with brown hair and malicious green eyes, leaning against the lockers. Soon I would know this to be the fabled "Ryan" "Nice outfit." He said, and sneered at me. Sadly I knew that one of the reasons people picked on me was because of my short pixie cut, my black hair as short as most of the boys, but more feminine. Another was that I liked girls and boys, though Ryan didn't know this yet, or else this might get a whole lot worse than just verbal abuse. I chose to ignored him, turning around and jogging into History, having gathered my books in my arms. I walked, among the student desks and sat in the the farthest corner of the room as I could . Words were scribbled all over the desk, and I took my time to read them. What are you really doing here? one said. Touché I thought. Touché Students lingered by the doorway, the late bell going off and the rest of the kids ran in. She scolded some of them for being late, but she didn't seem un-used to it. "Take a seat!" She yelled at us. Three girls walked in, hand in hand, laughing. They where wearing very interesting clothes, one girl had a shirt that said Just Do It with the Nike symbol rainbow across the front of the black muscle tee and underneath in parentheses (With Girls). They where gorgeous, and upon seeing me, they sat down around me. Everyone else had sat down on the other sides of the room, ignoring us. "Hey." The one with the tee said. I shook her hand and then went back to scribbling random words on the desk. "What's your name?" she asked, putting her platform heeled feet on the desk. The teacher glanced over at us but went back to telling two student to stop throwing spitballs. "Shade." I whispered and made little tornado scribbles on the desk. The girl smiled, her face lighting up. Class started but all through it, they talked to me. At the end of class, which I hadn't listened at all too, I stood up. I knew that they would run off now, to their friends, and that they where just being nice, but I had enjoyed their company. It was the first nice thing that had happened today. "Want to go grab something to eat?" Rainbow Nike said, wiggling one of her beautifully shaped eyebrows "But don't we have to go to Math?" I asked, intrigued. They laughed, and pulled me down the hall, outside. "So?" they said in unison, and we ran down the field across the street. I smiled and we sprinted off the field, in search for a good restraunt And A New Life © 2016 Elena Hazzard |
