William SuessA Story by Elegant ImperfectionsI had to recite a poem for a class, and I was trying to decide between one of Shakespeare's sonnets and one of Dr. Suess' stories. So, I decided to write my own little poem combining the two.Far beyond the hills of Dooey Past the dancing lake of Nooey Beyond the trees of Waka and Chooey You'll find a small town called Pinkie Wazooey
And there lives a Zoodle Who loves to Doodle With his trusted french poodle They call this Zoodle, "Loodle"
The two walked to the pier On the first of the year And what did they hear But the words of Shakespeare
(Italics=British accent)
A tale of love broken by hate A life of doubt and dreading fate A hope for which you'll have to wait 'Tis to such things we can relate
And with each tale of wit or woe We discover things we did not know Look deep in your heart at your sorrow And you'll see each tear begin to glow
Come dear friends, we'll sing a tune! Or have a drink as the clock strikes noon Strike up the band and maybe soon We'll hear a tale by the light of the moon
Loodle was shocked to find him here He wasn't even alive that year! But more than that, it was clear Loodle would listen, perchance to hear
For how often does one get the chance To meet the author of great romance Or comedy, or tragic happenstance And Loodle would get to do more than just glance
Loodle watched, feeling weak Compared to all the great technique Of this man who was so very unique Then Shakespeare continued to speak
Alas, a fellow comes today Whom I know has never come this way Well dear friend, I do hope you'll stay And hear a tale, and see a play
Loodle was completely shocked to see "Shakespeare, was talking about me?" He looked around and others did agree So he smiled, he beamed so pleasantly
"Yes I'll stay. Why, I'd love to!" There are few things in the world he would rather do "Oh, and when the play is through, Might I have a chance to talk with you?"
Ah friend, what a glorious thought! Have a talk, we could, well, we ought! You can bring along that dog you've got And we'll have a talk at the end of the plot
What play was performed? Romeo and Juliet! Loodle knew this was something he'd never forget And the more he'd see, the more excited he'd get To meet this man, only few had met
The last scene ended, the play came to a close And Loodle was so pleased with the day he chose To walk to the pier, where he never goes Then Shakespeare came up, and Loodle froze
Ah, dear friend, what did you think? On the topic of love, did it make you rethink? Shakespeare laughed, then said with a wink, I fear you are ill, for your face has turned pink
"Oh no, I'm fine" Loodle said, suddenly "Just in awe of that play, it was lovely to see But thank you for asking, you've been so kind to me Perhaps we could talk about it, over tea?"
Ah, sir, what another great plan I'd like to know your name though, assuming I can Although, I should have asked you before we began For I do not wish to just call you 'man'
Loodle laughed a little at that, then said "I'm Loodle, the one who's got hair that is red Groodle's the one with orange hair on his head And the one with the purple, that's my uncle Zed
You don't see others like me, I know They aren't really here, they're back at Stallow But we've been introduced that way since my great grandpa Joe It's weird, but quite fun if you make it a show."
Well then Loodle, why don't we have a talk? Why don't we go for a walk? We can walk past the pier to see the seahawk There's this place that I sit, on this lovely green rock
So that's what they did, and they talked for hours They touched the ocean, they smelled the flowers They climbed to the top of the two tall towers And they dreamt of a world better than ours
Now Loodle the Zoodle walks with Shakespeare All up and down, all around the pier On the first of each and every year And they recall the story I just told here. © 2016 Elegant ImperfectionsAuthor's Note
