Cheese and ChocolateA Story by Eleah RuffinThis is something I wrote while studying for an exam. These thoughts were running through my mind so I wrote it down into a sort of story. My dark chocolate accidentally got
covered with some
cheddar cheese.
I put my chocolate and my cheddar
cheese flavored rice
cakes in the
same plastic bag
as I left
out of my
room earlier in
the day (I
knew I’d be
gone a while
and wanted to
be prepared so
I didn’t have to
spend money on
snacks). I didn’t
see the point
in packing them
in the same
bag. I wanted
to save the
extras and save
space in my
backpack.
I’m also just
really lazy.
The cheddar cheese
didn’t take away
from the bittersweet, tangy sensation of
the chocolate as
it coated my
tongue. However, I
could still taste
some of the
cheesiness. It wasn’t
horrible, but definitely not something I
would go out
of my way
to try and
combine. Come on,
cheese and chocolate? Sounds awful.
Then again, everyone’s got weird habits
and guilty pleasures. I’ve met quite
a few people who
put ketchup in
their scrambled eggs.
Some people find
it normal. I
never even heard
of the concept
until I got
to college. I
still think it’s
weird.
In my opinion, the eggs should
be seasoned enough
to where you
don’t need condiments to make it
better. But what
do I know
about cooking? To
each his own.
My thoughts race
on and on,
my laptop staring
back silently at
me. I should
be studying. I
should be doing
work, anything really.
But anytime I
start, my mind
eventually wanders off
into some hidden
thought.
Reminding me of
the things I
need to do
for tomorrow, people
that have dropped
out of my
life like flies
hitting an electric bug zapper, or
my plans for
the summer, which
seems like a
far distant land
in the moment.
All of these
thoughts and more
flood my mind.
Meanwhile my laptop
sits on the
cluttered table, bright
and lonely, waiting
to be acknowledged.
All on this
dreary day. © 2018 Eleah RuffinAuthor's Note
