The Size of Our Souls

The Size of Our Souls

A Poem by Els.

You know, people will always be talking about fighting the good fight.
What’s that? For little me, it’s something different from what it is to little you.
Little us -- they only call us that because they can’t see the size of our souls,
and one day I know we’re going to show them how to judge us right.
Melancholy’s had me in her grip for awhile now
and I can’t really say that I’ve fought with her tooth and claw.
But I know this battle is coming to an end sooner than later,
even if I can’t tell you exactly how.
How long is too long?
Is there a point at which you’re supposed to give it up as lost
and just go ahead -- surrender all your well-constructed strategies for success?
What do you do when you realize that you’re not, after all, so strong?
The thing is, you and I, we’ve got trouble letting go.
These big ideals and dreams and hopes and egos and PLANS
get mixed into the pot and sweeten up the whole damn thing.
And that’s when I remember that it’s time to disprove what they think they know.

I like this poem. the words are raw, I can see you wrote from emotion, from your soul. Here is my fav part:

Melancholy’s had me in her grip for awhile now
and I can’t really say that I’ve fought with her tooth and claw.
But I know this battle is coming to an end sooner than later,
