well this brought me back to Vermont on our weekends in October there.
the beautiful New England countryside with the maples decorating the landscape of pastures and mountains.
and we used to love jumping into the piles of them.
we felt we had butterfly wings...of course until we hit the ground...ouch.

Good to see that friend. Wishing you a great weekend ahead too :) Take care!
I can conceive of no more lovely poem to touch the heart and rise one's imagination into wondrous images and fondest days of yore, when us kids couldn't wait to rake the fallen colours of Maple and Cottonwood leaves into huge piles we'd dive, roll, and bury ourselves under, tossing them into the air while shouting and laughing with every new trick we could think of.
We'd play like this for hours, and in the end, shaking and brushing-off -- we'd run into the kitchen, all rosy-cheeked and breathless from playing in the crisp Autumn air, begging Mom for hot chocolate, still chattering and laughing about our exploits and who did what the best and the funniest, while pulling off our mittens and coats. Then we would take our steaming cups of hot chocolate to the living room, lay on the rug, and listen to the radio until one-by-on we'd fall asleep for awhile.
I wonder what kids do these days?
What a wonderfully written and presented poem, Kitty, with interesting offset lines, and a flow like melting butter, vivid imagery, excellent rhymes, and a wee bit of mystery … you make it all come to life.
"Magic days that can be no more
which time and space cannot restore." … sighhh!
Thank you, Dear Lady-Poet, for the joy you bring to me, and the entire site.
Very special, indeed … happy Autumn hugs to You! ⁓ Richard 🍃

i do have a heart for fall and leaves and invigorating scents of it on the wind ... we have and have had some very hot humid days and I tell you I am looking forward to our fall ... temps will remain in the 50-60 area for a long time before our short winter .. the lilt and rhyming is so good and makes for reading it out loud ... i loose that cadence in Ls 10, and 13-15 ... leaves flying then laughter filling gives me the most tickling of thoughts as leaves are laughs ... tumbling and swirling ... such an inspiring write ... can't imagine how many poems are written in tribute to Fall .. this one is as fresh as ozone before a storm .. hmmmmmmmmmm i am sitting here for a moment soaking it in .. thanks for the experience :)

Hello kitty. Your lines reminded me of autumn days when I was a child and I played often in a beautiful. park over the road from where my family lived. Kicking up leaves and playing conkers comes to mind. Lovely to read a new poem from you kitty.

Outdoors was the thing - no sitting at home with a cell or other in hand and an earpiece blocking out sane and intelligent discourse.
