I Am A Nobody!A Poem by Eddie PhillipsThe delusion of our young is causing a problem beyond familial love and friendship. The killers of today are people with families and friends. Too many don't accept help or reach out for it.He said, "Society says I am a nobody." He said, "I don't know who I am." He said, "I don't know if there is a God, but maybe I'll meet him in a post-life holy land." He didn't believe in himself or anybody. He said, "Belief would insinuate I have joy & hope." He claimed to have never met anyone that gave him one or both. He said, "I feel like the lecher in the audience watching the virgin on the stage. We are both acting a part, and society is telling us how to behave." He refused to face the possibility that his accepted reality was an awful lie: Maybe, he was truly loved and had no reason to be cruel and die. Perhaps, he was not alone, and those that greeted him were his friends. Possibly he could put his gun down and refuse to accept a bloody end. But, unfortunately, shooters like him rarely buy into maybes. They get lost in their delusions and fictional solitary thoughts. They let bullets fly into innocent people that they presume blew them off. I told him he was loved and tried hard to be his supportive friend. But unfortunately, none of my actions stopped him from committing violence in the end. I informed the authorities of his intentions, but they arrived a bit too late. He took six lives that Monday before he turned the gun on himself and sealed his fate. His Facebook post said, "I am a nobody." He was delusional, and his statement was a lie. He was somebody to me, but still, he chose to hurt, kill, and die. © 2023 Eddie PhillipsFeatured Review
