Universal Charity

Universal Charity

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

Charity is not an innate gift in every man.

It is stirred by the spirit and given by the hand.

Stymied by that vacuum called the consciousness of mind;

Charity is a unique blessing that is a rarity to find.

The holidays bring it out, but we relinquish it way too quick.

Our festive holiday charity burns fast like a candle wick.

I wish we could bottle it and sell it to everyone in the world.

We could present universal charity to every boy and girl.

They could use it to unify humanity by giving their time.

A little loving kindness will reciprocate care of the same kind.

Love is my prayer, and I hope it will one day come to pass.

I pray for the day that universal charity will always last.
