HELP TO STAND

HELP TO STAND

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

Everything must start off weak before it can be strong.
We need help to quell life’s forces before we can stand on our own.
Evil people see this as timidity; they make us bend to wicked requests.
We willingly give them all we have and watch as they steal all the rest.
We try to hold on to our anger; knowing everything changes in time.
God's discarnate presence strengthens to our beleaguered minds.
The wicked see us as waifs; pliable reeds that they can bend.
We are the innocent supple victims that must endure all their evil sins.
The truthful revelation is they are withering on the vine of vice.
Their incipient evil is just another lesson in the story of our life.
We will soon stare in quiet pity as vicious storms tear across their skies.
We will watch as they receive payment for their sins and hateful lies.
Only in the siege of this painful night will these people finally understand:
We can only survive life's forces when we allow others to lend a hand.
