THE STORYTELLER

THE STORYTELLER

A Poem by Eddie Phillips
"

I can pull you into my world and spark you imagination! I am a storyteller.

"

I desire to pull you into my story; it's something I adore
I have a world of my own construction that I want you to explore

I created all the people, I gave everything reason to be alive
I massaged inner hatreds and passions; I make this world thrive
I chose to cause a calamity; it murdered someone that you loved
I gave emotion to you from nothing; I gave your compassion a little shove
Sometimes I introduce new villains, or decide to make a few saints
These characters provide endless drama as they cause your heart to sink
In this constructed world of wonder, tragedy can be sublime
You will be fixated on every word and whisper that flows out of my mind
I will play with your every emotion as my story proceeds along
At some point you will cover your ears and feel you can't go on
I want to tell you my story; it will take you through Heaven and Hell
Why? I am a storyteller, and it’s my imagination that I sell

Author's Note

Eddie Phillips
Many of the poems I write are written from character. I approach many poems in the same way I approach screenwriting ore short stories. I create a character in my mind and allow the reader to connect with that character. If the poem or story is done right the reader comes away feeling connected and illuminated.

'Tragedy can be sublime' Yes, in stories it has a very carthartic effect ..... sort of erradicates your own tragedy! Good poem, but I found your story teller a bit domineering. I would have prefered it if he wasn't the central key, but instead referred to a centre outside himself. I found him a bit too God-like! Perhaps I just found it a bit sinister, but it is a very well written poem.

Nicely written with rhymes that flow along unobstructed. A great picture and an overall good poem to share.
