A WRITER'S TRUTH

A WRITER'S TRUTH

A Poem by Eddie Phillips
"

When I first started sharing my writing some people said it was to showboat. It almost made me stop. I have since come to realize what it means to be a writer.

"

Writing is not about ego, it’s not about selfishness or pride
It is not about being smarter or just showcasing what’s inside
Writing is about feeling; it’s about scribing what you see
Writing is about aesthetic meaning; it's desire wanting to be free
Writers believe in hope; they write on pens tempered with faith
They write during utter oblivion because it relieves their inner ache
Many writers are often lonely and only their words can fill the space
They launch words into their void, hoping to fill that empty place
It's never about being popular or being seen for having a gift
It about exposing those hidden pains or giving someone else a lift
Writers give pieces of themselves to this world of broken souls
They encase it inside verse, so others can read and be made whole
It is a very delicate gift and sadly many writers die too young
They give and give to man and receive little love from anyone
So understand that writing is a wondrously humbling thing
Writers give all they have inside to teach others how to dream

Whatever creative outlet you may have in your life some dip s**t is going to come along and diss it. I think you're a good writer and I like reading your work so the next time someone says you're showboating look them dead in the eye and say "Sure. What about it?"

Beautiful poem and what a wonderful last line, "Writers give all they have inside to teach others how to dream"

We don't let the world, moments, just go by. We stop to try and understand it, to see it and help others see it too. :)

Lovely poem Eddie. I really enjoyed this.

My pleasure. Wonderful poem.
I think there is no difference between the visual aspects of my work and the written. One works in time, one works in space. That is all. So I can apply all the above to my drawing just as I can to my writing. And I fully agree with every last word. I wish I could say it as well as you have.

Oh Eddie. How do you define a writer's truth? You do it just like you did up there. Being a writer is so complicated. I have written for years and I only recently started to share some of it. My son convinced me to do so. Wonderfully penned. Angi~

I am happy you connected with the poem...
Eddie you hit many nerves with this piece. I have been ridiculed for writing poems by my peers because of the macho society but I still write - kinda secretly like the priests of old who were forbade to perform Mass, so they said it anyway in peoples cellars and in the hills and mountains because they loved to say Mass and they knew (as you so eloquently put it here) that saying Mass/writing poetry helps - ".. others..... be made whole").
Im grateful you wrote this Eddie

Great write, Eddie. Your heart and soul really took control of your pen on this piece. Each line is filled with wisdom, that explains a poet's love of art, and the reasoning. It also inspires. You are absolutely right, "writers give all they have to teach others how to dream" and "writers give pieces of themselves to this world of broken souls.
