People make decisions that seem right at the time but often are followed by regret
In my mental little hamlet your memory came my way I avoided it for a year, but my mind ventured there today We were sitting at a table and in dream I held your hand You smiled and stroked my fingers; I was proud to be your man I told you that I loved you; it was something I always wanted to do You kissed me on the cheek and said "You know I love you too" Suddenly, I awoke out of my slumber under the rays of the rising Sun Regret flicked at my conscious anger, realizing my dream was now done I walked over to your picture that hangs alone on my lonely wall I glanced over at my phone, but my conscious guilt won't let me call A year ago I decided that career and money ruled the day I left our little hamlet to conquer the city and make my way Destitute and devoid in the loneliness of my chosen fate This dream had come to haunt me and illuminate my mistake In the silent rays of morning my heart's regret has come at last As I wish for our sweet little hamlet and the gentle dream of days long past.
This is utterly breath-taking Eddie...the sorrowful lingering memories of imagery you wove into this is incredible! Not to mention your choice of words, rhyme and fluidity. Simply brilliant! My favorite lines:
Destitute and devoid in the loneliness of my chosen fate
This dream had come to haunt me and illuminate my mistake
In the silent rays of morning my heart's regret has come at last
As I wish for our sweet little hamlet and the gentle dream of days long past.
--- really resonated with me...thanks for sharing & pen on :))

Ah! The harp strings of regret. Don't we all have them. At least the man in the poem still has his little mental hamlet. Tell him to get writing. Writing can be a great antidote for regret

The regret and the longing for what once was is strong in this well written poem. The rhyming is flawless and the enjambment in the lines is excellent. Indeed, we all make mistakes....but if we learn from them, they can be stepping stones in our lives. Lydi**

I write everything. Whatever is on my heart comes through my pen. I do not limit myself to only write what I think. I write what I feel. I write a lot .. more..
