IN THE SILHOUETTED DARKNESS

IN THE SILHOUETTED DARKNESS

A Poem by Eddie Phillips
"

Never shut yourself off from the light. If you do the depression of darkness will swallow you up.

"

Inside the silhouetted darkness
Swims a mind in repose
Lost in a microcosm of frustration
Thoughts and dreams are juxtaposed

Madness is always reaching
As feral rage grows and swells
Exposed wounds gush life
From wrist phlebotomized in Hell

Inside the abyss of a breaking mind
Dreams implode and passions die
Nightmares propagate and foster
Listening to hope's whimpering cries

Cloaked in a endless darkness
People struggle and beg for peace
Slashing, drinking, and doping
Fantasizing that death will give release

Within the silhouetted mind
Lives nightmares and anguished fears
Hopes are dashed upon desperation
Because people feel no love is near

When I saw your title I was like oooo this is going to be good and made me think of someone sitting in a dark room with nothing but their thoughts and reading it, I loved it and just the feel all together. Wonderful job!

It is a choice, but for some they see only despair... Your fourth stanza really spoke to me. Searching for feeling, for even brief moments of elation, because they cannot find it in another person... Excellent insight, Eddie.

Thanks man, it was a little more dark then I usually write.
The second half I felt was more you than the first half. How do people choose to remain in the darkness is beyond me. Nice piece!

Thank you for reading. I wrote this to illustrate the way depression can play with the mind.
