THE FENCE OF LIFE

THE FENCE OF LIFE

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

Life is an ethereal fence we must chose our respective side
We can choose to be pure and live our lives with pride
We can choose to be malicious and live with regret and strife
But no matter what we choose God gives us the choice in life

We can choose to be the ones that sit atop the fence
Sometimes being ignorant and sometimes making sense
Living a tepid existence; playing two-faced games every day
Sitting in a life of ruin wondering how we lost our way

Often these two-faced people are the first ones to die
Because God in his great wisdom will not let them wallow in lies
I believe he often takes them in order to redeem their souls
Trying to catch them at their best when they are on the side of the whole
He also seems to take them when they are at their worst
So that they cannot excoriate others while eating at their worth
No matter when he takes them; he gives the lukewarm time
He gives them years and moments to make up their inner mind
For life is a ethereal fence and we have to chose a side
Whether we choose a life of purity or dwindle in selfish pride
It is something to really ponder this fence that divides our life
For on its hedgerow of eternity we determine our eternal life.
