THE RELATIONSHIP GAME

I love football. I wrote this poem to express love in football terms.

 

You put your heart out there 
It's a chance we all take 
Your receiver is open for a moment 
You have everything at stake 

You offer up a smile 
Like a Quarterback throwing a pass 
They offer you a smile right back 
It's a COMPLETION made at last 

You ask them something simple 
They answer right back to you 
Your FIRST DOWN has been made 
So you keep on playing through 

You ask about their interests 
They go quiet... FUMBLE! 
Who knew? 
But just when you think you blew it!
They say they like the same things too  
RECOVERY! 
You both get comfortable
After a while they fall for you
TOUCHDOWN!
Game over 
You did it 
The game is finally through! 

Relationships are difficult 
It sometimes feels like a game 
Played on a field of happenstance 
In the stadium of the insane 

Every time you go out there 
You risk another loss 
But competing is worth the effort 
Love’s trophy is worth the cost 

So when you meet that someone 
You should flex and go all out 
Remember putting yourself in the BIG Game 
Is what love is all about.
