I OWE YOU NOTHING

I OWE YOU NOTHING

A Poem by Eddie Phillips
"

Don't be a item. Be someones prize. Something that they cherish. Never lose your pride.

"

Stepping into my own means I paid all that was owed.
I will no longer pay a toll to your ever devouring troll.
For years you have dogged me; taking everything I have.
You treated me like a slave and laughed when things got bad.
I became your project and I was afraid to let you go.
You paid for my devotion with your fancy cars and flashy clothes.

To you I was always tethered; you would never set me free.
You decided every destination and everyone we'd ever see.
When you are a toy for pleasure you rarely see the day.
You get pulled out of the closet only when someone wants to play.
It took a while to find me; I was lost in my utter shame.
I finally found my worth and things will never be the same.

I owe you absolutely nothing because I paid it all with my pride.
I gave you all my passion, while you destroyed my worth inside.
Today I step into my own; I owe you nothing in return.
I am smarter, wiser, and stronger; only owning what I've learned.
