THE DEVIL IS THE NIGHT

THE DEVIL IS THE NIGHT

A Poem by Eddie Phillips

The Devil is the night, I know this now for sure.
In his tenebrous shadow we are made to feel impure.
In the Delphic putrid darkness, he will howl out our names.
We are all just his puppets dour pawns in his infernal game.

He will feed us to his disciples; they tear away at our souls.
With every illicit encounter we are made more unwhole.
The night will make it harder to try and find our way.
We become the Devil's fodder, no longer God's blessed clay.

The Devil is the night and in the nocturnal shadows he kills.
Relishing on our misery as he delightfully dines on our will.
The only way to beat him is to hold on until the day.
When light pierces darkness evil fades away.

Heaven lives in the sunshine; the Devil knows this to be true.
So rages on our souls before any light can shine through.
He is the Prince of Darkness that lives and breathes the night.
Every one will be slaughtered if they don't hold on to the light.

Something frightful to read after just having awaken from a series of nightmares.
I should have had a cup or two of coffee first. :)

It did give a sense of understanding to why there are nightmares in someone's life.
It is interesting how what we read in life and write in life can be so powerful.

the one thing that gave me pause was the word dour ~ but I looked it up ~ good word

and in this line"is to hold on till the day" till should be `til as I suspect you are trying to say "until".

Very nicely written; good read.

The Lord of the Air has limited power. Cling to the truth and remember the Father will not forsake you. Good poem on the spiritual war that is going on in all of us.

Chilling, not something you want to read before you switch of the bedroom light, although I do really enjoy a good fright! Also I didn't intend to rhyme just now :) Good job

Thank you. You rhyme because that's the poet in you. :) I am happy you liked the poem.
I'm not very religious but good poem...dark yet hopeful. We all have those demons to face.

LOL we all do. Thanks for reading.
Excellent read and write. There is more truth in writing when it isn't a thought, but comes from the heart where God is always talking to us.

Thank you Brandon for reading and connecting with this. This is a macabre poem but with a message.
Please comment. Bad or good I would appreciate the feedback. I am new on the site.
